In all the excitement of car crashes and other adventures I have forgotten to post this picture which I took in April. However now seems to be the right moment, since this chimney has just recently been demolished.
This was an iconic Wolverhampton landmark. The Good Year tyre factory was built in 1927, and apart from the chimney bits of the site had some quite interesting 1920s and 1930s buildings. After years and years of cutbacks the factory finally closed in 2004. Another nail in the coffin of English industry – presumably the tyres are now made in eastern Europe or indeed even further east...
